Darkscorner: What kind of changes were made to the Painengine in Overdose?
Mindware Studios: We made several changes mostly to the Lua bs. The Engine itself was changed mostly to handle more complex graphics that Overdose required. We also changed many things regarding multiplayer (special thanks to Blowfish).
Darkscorner: Does the engine now make use of bump or normal mapping?
Mindware Studios: Only slightly… We put them on in some places, but do not forget that Overdose was mostly a fan project in the beginning and we did not have so much time to modify the engine once we got the chance to sink our teeth and claws into the source code. A big part of the work has been done using only the original PK tools.
Darkscorner: Will there be a demo before the release?
Mindware Studios: Sure. Currently we are planning a multiplayer and single player demo to be released before the release of the game.
Darkscorner: The storyline and Belial still is a mystery to the fans. Can you tell us more about it?
Mindware Studios: Half demon / half angel; he pissed off someone very, very powerful and that landed him in the deepest troubles... Now he is out and kicking some demon ass. You will have to wait for more. ;)
Darkscorner: The multiplayer part is fully compatible with Painkiller, so you can’t have made changes in the netcode, right?
Mindware Studios: This is more complicated. As we changed a lot in Lua bs and also we made an arsenal of new weapons, the Overdose multiplayer is not compatible with original multiplayer. But what is more important we are working on removing/fixing the bugs which were in the original multiplayer and we are working with best moders to include their fixes. Once everything is in place we will work towards synchronizing both releases.
Darkscorner: How many multiplayer maps will be included in Overdose?
Mindware Studios: Currently we are on number 8, but it may change as we are considering including some fan maps into package and also moding some of the most popular and proven PainKiller MP maps.
Darkscorner: There will be new Tarot Cards. Can you tell us something about them?
Mindware Studios: Sorry, still confidential… we have to leave some aspects of the release secret!
Darkscorner: What’s with Mindware in the future, what are your upcoming Projects?
Mindware Studios: Well, it looks we will survive! :) So, you can choose to guess or wait to the end of September for an update…
We'd like to thank Thomas "Sep" Pluharik for this information and the kind support.
